The Spectacle of Autumn

Ah, autumn! There is something bittersweet about this time of the year. The chill in the air seems to linger on and on, and every night becomes longer than the last. But autumn is also the season for great produce and food. Here in Vancouver, it is prime time for apples, mushrooms (don’t even mention fresh matsutake pine!), and an assortment of squash and pumpkins. The delicious produce is accompanied by an explosion of autumn colours—a spectacle of red, orange, yellow, and green, marking a final ‘hurrah’ by mother nature before the tree and shrubs hibernate for the coming winter.
